PL work
Adrienne Sweetwater has worked in the intercultural field for the past seven years. Her graduate research explored Personal Leadership as the primary tool for global leadership development for students and instructors in international education. She has used Personal Leadership to mediate community dialogues, to provide workshops for undergraduate students, and to live her daily life with integrity.
As part of strengthening her personal practice, Adrienne attended four separate Clearing the Field seminars at the Crestone Institute, and participated in the virtual course Personal Leadership: A Year of Living the Practices.
Other work
Adrienne currently works as a business district organizer in east Portland’s diverse neighborhoods, and as a cross-cultural counselor with an au pair organization. As an organizer, she facilitates monthly board meetings with multiple business associations, and leads the board through capacity-building practices that fit the needs of the specific business district. As a cross-cultural counselor, Adrienne supports and advocates for international au pairs as they navigate the complexities of living with their American host families and caring for young children.
Personal background
While Adrienne grew up in Colorado, she has been an international exchange participant in eight different countries. She has lived for a total of 18 months in northeast Brazil, and is proud to have Brazilian family by affection.
Academic
Adrienne received her Master of Arts in Intercultural Relations from the University of the Pacific and the Intercultural Communication Institute.
Other interests
When she’s not working with small business owners in east Portland, or helping international au pairs with cultural adjustment, you can find Adrienne hiking in Oregon’s natural beauty, cooking meals with friends, or playing capoeira—Brazilian dance fighting.
